The Yehsreh tribe lives in a tropical rain forest, with abundant natural resources. They have a wide variety of vegetation, and plenty of water available to them. In the Yehsreh culture women are quite powerful. In their polyandrous society, where women marry multiple men, women have a lot of say in what goes on. The culture is also stratified by age. The eldest women hold the powerful positions in the council of elders, and an infertile woman serves as the Shaman, a spiritual guide. Naturally, they follow a matrilineal descent pattern, and live in matrilocal societies. The men's roles within the Yehsreh tribe are hunting, trading and going to battle when it is necessary. The Yehsreh are peaceful, so times of war are rare. Women and men each have their own outlets for relaxation, with gardening and hunting clubs offered. Another past time for the Yehsreh is their annual canoe race, which promotes their physical fitness, teamwork and competition. In addition to these, the Yehsrehs value nature, art and elders. Ancestry worship is practiced within the tribe, as well as animism. Their beliefs are that those ancestors that lived good lives come back reincarnated as monkeys, and those that lived bad lives come back as trees.
