Subsistence & Exchange Discussion
It might be best to break up into 4 committees for this discussion:
Committee One: ENVIRONMENT: Study and discuss your environment carefully.
Be prepared to answer questions from the other committees.
Committee Two: SUBSISTENCE: What are you eating? (should be many things)
How are you getting these things?
Who is getting/growing/hunting these things?
Why these things and not others?
How often do you work? When? How? Committee Three: TECHNOLOGY: What tools do you have available?
What *materials* do you have to make tools?
(Note: only agriculturalists will have iron. Others must make do with stone unless they have special trade relations with neighbors.) Committee Four: EXCHANGE: What mode(s) of exchange will operate in your culture?
What will you exchange? Who will exchange what with who?
Will you emphasize social prestige and building relationships,
maximizing profit, or both? In what contexts or events?
What are your boundaries of generalized reciprocity?
Balanced reciprocity?
Do you need to set up trade relations for specific goods?
