How to save the world ...

Seeing Yali (clip from Cannibal Cultures showing Yali's people on display as if in a zoo)

Intergenerational Tyranny

Another great threat – Corporations vs. Seed Saving ...

* India: for thousands of years have been saving seeds.
* They exchange seeds with one another
* Ensures biodiversity

Seed Laws --- Forced to buy seed => suicides (can’t survive)

Violate the Laws – Over 2,000 villages have dedicated themselves to violating the laws and saving seed => Corporate Response: Terminator Seeds

Some of the same processes happening right here, including a rise in farmer suicides (x2 the normal population rate)

Kansas Colonized (scene from the Accountant)
Internal Colonization

* lease land
* can’t pay (price driven lower by corporate farm)
* corporate farm buys land
* must sell labor
* media sells him his culture right back to him (starts acting country instead of being country)

The System Has all of us --- Yet we all matter ...

4 Things to Burn into your soul and never forget
* We are the structure.
* It is what we make of it.
* Participation is not a choice.
* How we participate is perhaps our most important choice.

What can we do?

1. Protest
Ken Saro-wiwa and the Shell Nigiera example
2. Media Activism
3. Identity Correction (Yes Men)
4. from the Inside (Ray Anderson

Ray Anderson’s Epiphany
* Consumers come to him
* He reads a book (The Ecology of Commerce)
* He begins to transform the corporation from the inside
* Tells others
* THIS VIDEO

Great Hope for our future – the powers we can have ...

THE KEY IS VISION
* See the system
* See how we all contribute
* See that we are all interconnected

REMEMBER
* see who makes your life work
* what makes your life work (what is taken from the earth)
* have a vision of all others you are connected to
- presently
- AND future generations

WE ARE A GLOBAL VILLAGE

We’ll need the skills of VILLAGERS to survive

What are those skills
* SUSTAINABILITY – friends in PNG could live indefinitely
* MUTUAL VISIBILITY – THE GIFT
We need to TRULY see each other ... NOT like in Cannibal Cultures ...

COMMUNICATION
Learn – talk to each other

EMPATHY
Must stop seeing “them” as a “them” – That’s true dividuality ...
(break "the taboo against knowing who you truly are" - Alan Watts)

THOUGHTFULNESS
* See that we are related
* Luk Luk

As the lady in the video says the companies are controlling everything and, "it's not right." It's just mass production. The chickens have now built up a resistance to the antibiotics put in their food which means they are able to get sick easier. Because the farmers have debt, these companies are able to keep the farmers under their thumb. It costs a lot to build one chicken house, and the company keeps coming back and demanding upgrades or else the farms will loose a contract.

The article describe Monsanto as a monopoly selling power. The prices for seeds have risen 146% since 1999. The company was finally taken to court in Iowa after all the damages it cause. During the hearing one person said that he had no choice but to buy the seems from Monsanto. Some other farmers brought up the issue of the threats Monsanto was making if it's seed was planted without a license. The meat farmers also have to be careful because many of the big companies are merging together. If the farmer is not happy with the low price the large companies offer them then these farmers are out of luck and can rarely find higher prices for their goods. As consumers we should see the prices of food going up while farm prices go down rather than vice versa.

This website is great at providing information about what is really in our foods. On the front page it talks about a food many of us will find in our cupboards, Kellogg's Frosted Flakes. It talks about the harm in the cereal and what we can do to make a change, which is to write a letter stating dislike for the product's harmful ingredients. This web page gives ways we, as consumers, are able to make a difference and have healthier products to consume.

Monsanto is destroying farmers. It is not something that is just affecting us in America, it is happening all over the world. Holding seeds back is against the law and farmers are being put into debt because they have to repay the seeds every year. They are not allowed to hold seeds back which is what farmers always did in the past. Farmers in India are killing themselves because they can't take care of their farms anymore, this is so sad and needs to be more broadcasted in America and in the World so that we can get this issue under control.

This is a very short article but it makes it real. This farmer not only took his life but took his cows lives as well. Farmers are so stressed out that they can not function correctly and in the end they truly believe that life would be better if they were dead. America and the world are making peoples lives so difficult that they must go to extremes, if we kept the way farming use to be we wouldnt have the problems we have today.

This is a video of a man talking about all the problem with GMO. He has very good points throughout his talk. He states how the government is changing the ways of life and the seeds farmers can use. Monsanto is corrupting our world. People do not realize what is truly being put into these seeds that will later show up in our lives. Long term studies need to be done on the affects of these genetically modified seeds can do to humans. Seeds that blow into farmers lands Monsanto is still saying that farmers owe that back to them. Everything is different today. He states how the government isn't involved and we need to figure out a solution for these problems.http://www.seedsofdeception.com/Public/Home/index.cfm is the website that he refers to that also have many articles as well
