Koobecaf is a relatively new and integral part of today’s Nacirema society that affects much of the population on a daily basis. Yet, how is one website changing the culture and daily norms so drastically? In many ways, Koobecaf is just an extension of today’s culture within the Nacirema society, but at the same time it introduces several new elements that change how everyday lives are carried out. Many of the elements of culture such as morals, values, organizations, politics, advancing technology, demographics and economics, are merely extended to Koobecaf rather than altered. Morals and standards can be seen through pictures, bumper stickers, causes, and groups that people are members of as well as other subtle representations within the profile. Organizations and political beliefs become apparent primarily in the groups application, where Koobecafers join up with people with similar interests, such as sports, hobbies, political parties, and even professional aspirations. The advancing technology is very apparent within Koobecaf, but especially in the form of new applications and even more recently the “new” Koobecaf. As time goes on, the technology within Koobecaf gets more and more complex and advances the capabilities within. As time goes on, the demographics within Koobecaf are becoming more and more mixed. It first started as a small college network and exploded across the Detinu Setats and from there to a global set-up. Now, a person from the Detinu Setats can communicate with someone on the other side of the globe on a daily basis. This global communication is one of the aspects of the culture that Koobecaf has changed. The economy of Koobecaf is similar to that of the Detinu Setats in the sense that it is a capitalist economy. There are ads for many different goods and services running along the sides of each profile. Another way that Koobecaf represents a market economy is that some items within the profile are sold as commodities, such as gifts, drinks, and ribbons. Within Koobecaf, many of the elements of today’s culture are just carried over into the different components and applications of this new and revolutionary network. While many of the elements of today’s culture are merely extended to Koobecaf, many are also extremely altered or reinvented. Some examples within the culture that have been drastically changed are honesty, gossip, and many of the more obscure applications. Honesty has been transformed by Koobecaf in the evolution of the concept of “Koobecaf official”. A relationship is not truly official until it is “Koobecaf official”. Another way that honesty has changed, is through the honesty box application. Within the honesty box, people can write whatever they want, good or bad, about someone without any fear of retribution. There is no way for them to find out who wrote what or to retaliate in any way. Gossip has taken on an entirely new and somewhat frightening new facade in that people can snoop through pages with permission by the person and yet at the same time without anyone knowing. Accepting friend requests essentially gives consent to browse the profile, but at the same time there is no notification of who is looking at the profile and when. Koobecaf gave gossip a new level of anonymousness by concealing these aspects. There are many ways in which Koobecaf has severely altered the Nacirema culture, but to what point is not yet known.
Altogether, Koobecaf is a melting pot of existing and evolving culture within Nacerima society in which large portions of the population are involved. Some aspects of the culture are carried over into Koobecaf while others are completely and irreversibly altered.
