What is it about this web site, koobecaf that entrances people of all ages to spending hours upon hours of their lives keeping up on the lives of others? Is it the convenience of not having to call that old friend of yours that you haven’t talked to in ages and instead of having those awkward silence moments you can just type in their name, find their page and instantly find out what they’ve been up to? Is it adding and then koobekaf stalking that guy you met at the party on Friday night determining if he could be potential boyfriend material? Whatever the reason, koobecaf is a nacirema phenomenon that is taking our generation by storm. One of the reasons Koobecaf has become popular in nacirema culture is because of its accessibility. Everyone who is anyone can have a koobecaf profile. Koobecaf started as a site for college students with each university having their own network. It has now branched into networks divided by cities although they have made it where you don’t have to be a member of a network to have a profile, even parents have been known to be utilizing this new technology! Koobecaf offers alternatives to communicating besides talking on the phone and text messaging. You have the option to write on your friend’s wall, send them a message, and comment on their photos. Creating groups and becoming members of groups on koobecaf is another very useful feature. Some classes in college utilize this feature as a way to communicate easily between group members. Adding pictures of recent adventures, parties attended, or of your friends allows the user to “show off” your adventurous and outgoing personality which are traits that are very important to people in the nacirema culture. The nacirema culture is one that leans towards impersonal relationships more and more every day. At first, instead of writing someone a personal letter and putting it through snail mail, e-mail became the new thing. Instant messaging was and is a huge thing for people who don’t want to talk on the phone and instead are able to think and read what they say before they send it for their conversation buddy to read. Staying current is very important in the nacirema culture. CNN helps people stay up to date to the minute by their 24/7 news feeds, koobecaf helps it’s members stay current by updating the home page each time you log in or hit refresh, showing the latest break-ups or statuses of other koobecaf users. Changes are taking place constantly, people are adding new pictures, writing on other people’s walls, sending out event invitations, breaking up, or making their relationship “koobecaf official”, in other words koobecaf is the nosey person’s best friend and becoming a huge necessity in American culture. By looking at the barrel model of the nacirema culture you can see just how and where koobecaf fits in. Some nacirema citizens live in desolate places, others live in suburbs, yet others live in large cities. Koobecaf is the technology that allows these people of differing environments to keep in close contact with each other and avoid long distance phone call charges. The next level of the barrel model is infrastructure. Technology in the nacirema culture is highly prized and important. Koobecaf is a result of the importance placed on technology, it changes daily and once we have the advancement we can’t believe how we ever lived without it. In the level of social structure, kinship is one of the characteristics that naciremans value. Koobecaf allows the family structure to stay interconnected by being able to catch up on the latest happenings of your family members or by different applications that allow users to take quizzes about their families or make their own stick family. Politics is another characteristic of the social structure that koobecaf puts emphasis on. One of the first questions it asks you when starting a profile is about which political party you affiliate yourself with. You can join groups that allow you to “campaign” for the candidate you support. The highest level of the barrel model for nacirema culture is superstructure. Self expression is a huge part of nacirema society today. Every member is constantly trying to find ways to individualize themselves and make it visible that they are their own person. Koobecaf allows this by enabling people to add their favorites to their page such as quotes, movies, and hobbies. There is also an application called bumper stickers that allows users to send different sayings to their friends or add them to their own page There are so many benefits that koobecaf has brought to nacerima society. Keeping in touch and staying in the know are just a few. As technology progresses so will koobecaf. Koobecaf changes daily to stay current with our ever changing world. Now that we have koobecaf who could ever begin to imagine life without it?
