It also allows people to express themselves other than just in a physical sense and makes them feel more independent. Many politicians have Facebook profiles to communicate with the public as another means of media other than Television or the radio. Facebook also allows people to create and join groups, which may describe personalities. Facebook creates ways to build and strengthen relationships with friends and family, whether it is a message on their wall, or a simple poke.

Facebook is free and is available to everyone so the community has limit to how many people can join. Every member has a profile where they can edit their personal information, their profile picture, their status, and their relationship status. Facebook allows people to add anyone as their friend and displays people that that person may know. For some people it may just be a status thing where they have to have a lot of friends so they will add people they don’t even know. For others it may be that they met that person once and so they add them on Facebook, which begins to add up if you meet new people everyday. Others may just wait for people to add them as a friend.

Facebook allows people to communicate without leaving the comfort of their own home. With this convenience many people are at their computers for hours using Facebook. This causes a lack of exercise that, in turn, can cause health problems for people. The messaging system on Facebook has also allowed people to become very careless about their grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Many people will use shorthand when typing messages because it is quicker. They leave out the punctuation and many times don’t capitalize when it is needed. The younger portion of the population is starting to accept this new style of communication. If people use this form of communication on a daily basis, they may begin to use it outside of Facebook, such as in an English paper or in an application. The worst part is that they won’t even realize they did it because it has become so natural to them and they have become accustomed to it.

Facebook has changed the way people communicate by letting the members leave messages on their friends’ walls instead of calling them on the phone or talking to them in person, and by giving people a way to express themselves and feel more independent. Facebook also gives members the luxury of communicating with friends and family in the comfort of their own home. Technology is always changing and has become an important part of today’s society.
