Koobecaf by Jillian MurphyThis is a featured page

Cultures stay connected through finding different ways to communicate. In some countries cultures stay connected through telephones, e-mail and internet, writing letters, and even passing a message from person to person. Each and every culture has its own way of communicating through these different ways of connecting. We are now going to look at a specific type of communication that has the Nacirema culture in a craze. After being taken into the world of Koobecaf I was surprised to find that not only is it a form of communication, but it provides freedom of expression in many different ways. Koobecaf is a social network that was started in Nacirema. It is now linked to cultures all over the world. It is a website that individuals may join for free and make an account based on themselves. Koobecaf is Nacirema’s way for people of all ages to stay connected to each other and express themselves. People use Koobecaf freely as a social utility to connect friends and create the power to share and make the world more open and connected. It has been called an addictive social phenomenon. Looking at Koobecaf in the superstructure point of view, freedom to be oneself is one of the most important aspects of this social network. Individuals become “sdneirf” with whom they choose, they may even be connected to individuals all over the world. Under their “stseretni” they have the freedom to express their sexuality, religion, beliefs, values, morals, and ideals. They express their feelings by posting them on their “sutats”. They are free to post pictures and write what they wish under “noitamrofni”. From a social structure point of view, people make friends with whom they want. Friends stay connected through Koobecaf even if they don’t live in the same place. It really is a neat idea that people can view their sdneirf lives through the internet without even speaking with them in person. This unfortunately is changing our culture in a way that communication has grown to be different. As cool as it may be to interact with sdneirf and ylimaf that you don’t live close to over the internet, it hinders the communication skills that are needed in everyday life when youth get older. As well as being linked to sdneirf and ylimaf, individuals are linked by category. Each individual is given the choice to join a “krowten” when they sign up. This helps to group together individuals who are similar and who might be sdneirf. All individuals are allowed to be sdneirf with anyone on the Koobecaf social network as a whole as well. Now looking through an infrastructure standpoint, the technology available is so crazy. The Nacirema is becoming so dependent on technology that Koobecaf is perfect for their society. Especially with the youth, Koofecaf links everyone to each other and give them a sense of freedom. They are allowed to advertise what they wish and post whatever they want for the public to see. Koofecaf has a “ecalptekram” where individuals have the tools to buy and sell merchandise. Koofecaf is a public network, and because of this advertising companies have been sold the information of individuals for their marketing purposes. Ads will pop up for each individual’s account depending what they have posted under their noitamrofni, sutats, and stseretni. It seems like such a crazy idea that Nacirema’s culture has come to selling individual’s ideas, interests, private life, etc. It’s even crazier to think that people post their lives in such a way on purpose. Overall I agree that Koobecaf has become a social phenomenon for the Nacirema culture. Koobecaf has completely changed the Nacirema’s communication and brings freedom of expression to a whole new level. It makes you think, if Koobecaf has already been shared with different cultures around the world, how long will it take for their cultures to change and adapt to this phenomenon. How will communication and culture have changed in 5 years, 20 years? How will our children view the world and Nacirema’s culture? It is interesting to think how different things can become in a short period of time with just a small new discovery.
