The Koobecaf is a fast-growing phenomenon within the Nacirema culture today. Since its start in 2004, Koobecaf has gained more than 100 million loyal followers. Why has Koobecaf become such an integral part of the Nacirema culture? In the Nacirema culture, technology is a highly developed aspect in their infrastructure that shapes how the Nacirema communicate with each other every day. They use many tools, such as cell phones to the World Wide Web, to stay wired with the world around them. Since the addition of the internet to the Nacirema culture, people have been creating ways to connect with one another through virtual space. It was only a matter of time that Koobecaf would gain popularity among internet users. So what exactly is this Koobecaf cult?

Koobecaf is a social networking tool that allows students and people to stay connected with one another. In the beginning, one would have to belong to a certain network or social group to join Koobecaf. These groups started with only university students which then grew to include high school students as well. Now Koobecaf has removed the network aspect allowing anyone to join. It was these networks that gave the Nacirema a sense of belonging to a group, while still being individuals as well. Koobecaf allows people to showcase all the different types of people within that network, but it still unites them as one. Fitting in with the Nacirema society is very important to these people, yet they still want to hold onto their individuality as well. This is a reason why Koobecaf fits well in the Nacirema culture. On Koobecaf, a person can create a profile that showcases their identity among the millions of users. They can let people see their interests, hobbies, activities, and many more aspects of that person. They can display photos of themselves or share photo albums of specific events that happen in the individual’s life. This is another reason why the Nacirema like Koobecaf. They have all the information at the tip of their fingers. They can learn about people without having to make the effort to actually talk in person. Koobecaf actually makes it easier to follow people’s lives with the mini-feed which keeps track of people’s activities on their profile and other people they interact with. The Nacirema like the fact they can know what is going on in their friend’s life and not have to waste time to find out. After creating their identity on Koobecaf, they can start to find other people within the same network as them. Koobecaf allows people to add one another as a “friend” whether they actually know the person or not. Generally, one usually does not add the other person unless they actually have had contact with that person outside of Koobecaf more than once or twice. Sometimes this is not the case as some people use Koobecaf to meet new people. In some cases, students who start college for the first time use Koobecaf to get a head start on making new friends and acquaintances. I have seen a person start to add anyone they could find in their school network, so when they arrived at their school in the fall, they would know some of the people there already. In other cases, there are the people who are coined “Koobecaf Serohw” because they will add anyone they can to make their number of friends increase. It is viewed in this culture that the more friends you have, the more popular you are. This can also lead to some people to falsify information on their profiles to seem more appealing to people so that they will add them as a friend. These “Koobecaf Serohw” will display over 1000 pictures of themselves to make it seem like they are important. Some people will lie about their interests and other information so others will conceive an image of that person. After one has built up their social network, they can post messages on each other’s wall or privately send a message. They can also utilize the “Koobecaf Thac” to talk with people online at the same time they are. This is good for the Nacirema because they can interact with people without having to leave the comfort of their habitat. The Nacirema are always trying to find ways to make their lives more convenient. In addition to these features, Koobecaf also allows users to add applications that let users make their profile more unique and have more interactions with their friends. Some of the more popular applications among Koobecaf users are bumper stickers which allows users to send each other humorous stickers with expressions, quotes, and other various pop-culture references.

These numerous features are the reason why Koobecaf has gained so much popularity. It allows people to place themselves in today’s society. It is a convenient way for people to maintain existing friendships while building new relationships at the same time. Information on Koobecaf is always at their disposal as internet and technology is widespread within the Nacirema environment. Koobecaf will remain an integral part of the Nacirema culture.
