Koobecaf Disease by Jessica Jones
Koobecaf Disease When I first arrived in the lands of the Nacirema I found myself hearing more and more about this Koobecaf. I became intrigued with finding out more about this so called addiction or disease. I studied the acts of the Nacirema people and their cyber worldliness for around three years. My studies have shown that this obsession of Koobecaf has invaded the younger poplulations of the Nacirema people. However more recently the disease has spread to the older populations as well, and has even traveled overseas like an airborne virus. The disease can be described as an obsession with a potpal, retupmoc, or even a ralullec enohp (usually square shaped mechanisms which are connected to the “web” which is an invisible strand that connects all of the devices together) which are carried around by the people with Koobecaf. The disease starts out by signing their life away to the Koobecaf krowten which is controlled by a singular ynapmoc who is the leader of this revolutionary obsession. The Nacirema are drawn into the cyber world by creating an elihporp “profile” page and are told to give their background information and a detailed list of their interests and activities. The next phase is adding “sdneirfs” which are friends and people they know in their lives or who they have recently met or have been added as a sdneirf. After they add a sdneirf they can view their elihporph and find out more information about them. Although this may seem like an odd process, the Nacirema people have established a large networking system in which they can contact and keep in touch with their friends in an efficient and easy manner. Along with the elihporph the Koobecaf krowten also allows the Nacirema people to post serutcips and soedivs which are images of recent activities that have taken place in their lives. This allows their sdneirfs to view their images and actually see or hear what is going on in their worlds. Koobecaf has not yet invented the web camera aspect of the up and coming society, but there is much talk of being able to view one another on the retupmoc in a live manner. Recently however, Koobecafers have been able to message their sdneirfs via Koobecaf tahc which allows them to type words into their retupmoc back and fourth to one another to communicate. Other new additions to the Koobecaf network are snoitacilppa which are controlled by outside sources that allow further interactions with sdneirfs by competing on some level, drawing on the elihporph, and even editing sotohps. The final stage of acquiring the disease is “writing” on a sdneirfs “llaw” which allows the Nacirema people to leave comments or updates on their lives to the other person. After these stages comes the obsession and mayhem the Koobecaf causes people. I took the time to talk to a few of the Nacirema people who have been affected by Koobecaf firsthand. I asked them why they have this disease and they responded with various answers. One individual said she likes Koobecaf because it allows her to get an inside look on someones life without them knowing she is “gnipeercing” in on their lives. I found this gnipeercing particularly peculiar because it apparently causes problems for the Nacirema people, yet they continue to fall into an addiction of doing such on a daily basis. They spend hours upon hours scouring the Koobecaf ironically wasting precious time. Another individual said he likes Koobecaf because it is simple and he has been “caught” by the disease. He said he cannot help but be obsessed because there is always something new on the site or something to look at or just to pass time. He described it as not being aware he is doing it. Although this may seem strange to some people, the Nacirema are obsessed with Koobecaf. It is their networking system that is easy to use, and addicting to be on. Perhaps someday the entire world will be infected with the Koobecaf disease. I know I have found the disease to be quite interesting and resourceful. I guess you could say I have caught the “bug” as well.
