Koobecaf Assignment
In a world where round discs in the air direct virtually all communication, a new phenomenon has arrived. Prior to this new way of communication, the people of Nacirema communicated solely by the use of a handle connected to a cord in the wall, instant messages written on an automatic alphabet system, and simply talking face to face. Judgments about other people were enhanced by a person’s appearance, voice, and proper use of the alphabet. All of this is beginning to change. Although these ways of communication are still put to use in the world today, communication is changing forever. Koobecaf has changed our perception of others, relationships, and the economy. Koobecaf would not be a possible way to communicate without the retupmoc, a device used for communication. Primarily Koobecaf is a way to get into contact with all kinds of people from your close friends to that cute boy you met at the mall last Tuesday. But Koobecaf is far more complex than that. The perception of others is something deemed very important to the people of this society. People consume their lives with ways to make themselves look more appealing to others by the way they appear, the activities they do and their economic status. Koobecaf enables people to do this quite easily. You can even change yourself into someone you are not. Many individuals compose what is called their Koobecaf “profile” in a manner that looks appealing to others. They paste the most luxurious and beautiful pictures of themselves on their page. This helps others to remember them at their most attractive state. These pictures create an image that the person wants to be known for. Some common stereotypes that people try to uphold through pictures are drinkers, partiers and goody goods. A picture is not the end of it though. Koobecaf allows you to write any information that you want on your profile. Typical information written is hometown, activities, interests, relationship status, religious views, favorite movies and television shows. Many people in the Nacirema culture use Koobecaf to recreate themselves. They alter their information to make themselves appear desirable to others and to even themselves. Relationships are formed everyday through Koobecaf. The most fascinating relationships formed through Koobecaf are gnitad couples. These couples spend most of their days exchanging private and public messages through Koobecaf. Although these couples do spend time face to face, they are not officially considered gnitad until they have declared it on Koobecaf. Their entire krowten, all of their friends on Koobecaf, is notified when there is any new development in their relationship. Koobecaf allows the gnitad relationship to loose almost all privacy. Koobecaf not only has an effect on relationships and judgements, it is starting to play a key role in the Nacirema economy. Koobecaf allows each person to create his or her own virtual marketplace. Tickets to events, cars, and technology are exchanged daily through Koobecaf. Not only are things bought through Koobecaf, but gifts are given as well. These gifts however, are not tangible items; they are sent simply through a picture. Even though the receiver cannot touch and feel these gifts, they still have to same meaning. Gifts commonly given are food, undergarments, and alcohol. Each has its underlying meaning that only the giver and receiver truly know. Koobecaf is rapidly expanding through the Nacirema culture. Not only is it affecting the youth but also it is starting to expand to the economy and even the workforce. To the outsider looking in, Koobecaf appears unpractical and superficial, but to the Nacirema, it is considered a necessity.
