Koobecaf - Kirby Thomas
What is it about Koobecaf? The young American society has recently become drawn to a new concept of communication; Koobecaf. Koobecaf is a program that requires individuals to tell their private information to a large network of people in order to be admitted into the system. From there, they are then allowed to broadcast all kinds of information anywhere from their favorite color, a picture of their dog, or what they are doing at that particular moment. Not only can this person share information about themselves, they are capable of posting things about others as well, giving out your name and describing who you are. Basically, anyone has the ability to find out about your personality without ever making contact with you. It may seem dangerous, but surprisingly it has become a large part of the American lifestyle, absorbing hours and hours of their precious time each day. In order to understand why this culture would allow Koobecaf to become so popular, you need to understand the culture itself.
The American culture can best be described by four categories; superstructure, social structure, infrastructure, and environment. The main superstructure in this society is the value of relationships. Americans, for the most part, are more successful because of the kinds of people they know. Koobecaf strengthens relationships because people are able to communicate instantaneously through the program. Second, the social structure is based on a federal government. With this idea, people are taught to value individualism and freedom. Third, the infrastructure is dramatically changing and booming with the progression of technology. Over the past fifteen years, the internet has changed people’s perspectives on life. Koobecaf, as it is internet based, continues to build this new idea. As a minor result of these technological advancements, the environment is slightly suffering from their consumption of energy. So this successful and advanced society that values relationships, individualism, and freedom is being changed by this program known as Koobecaf.
I believe Koobecaf is so popular in this culture because people are curious. Everyone wants to know more information than what is normally presented to them. It is like having the upper hand in a conversation, knowing more than the other person. The American culture is allowing Koobecaf to become this way because this conceited society is too worried about the way others perceive them. With Koobecaf, people can create and or edit their lives to the likings of others. This idea is frightening because people’s true personalities are dying. Koobecaf has the ability to blend our free, individualized, culture together.
In summation, this program is destroying not only privacy barriers and individualism, but formal communication is slowly, but surely, fading into extinction. Koobecaf can be viewed as a blatant form of spying that is replacing formal communication. When I think of spying I think of two different categories; immature children and the FBI. In my mind Koobecaf falls under the immature, childish category. It’s hard to believe that this brilliant model culture is taking this scary turn towards immaturity. We can only hope for the young American society that is quickly becoming attached to this cureless growing disease known as Koobecaf.
