Koobecaf : Liz Sullivan
The Nacirema people appear to be technology obsessed. With satellite and wireless communication dictating their every move, they spend hour upon hour on the dlrow ediw bew. They never actually come face to face with another Nacirema. Once on the tenretni they go right to the phenomenon known as Koobecaf. Koobecaf lives in the Nacirema’s retupmoc. They must prove that they truly are a member by entering a secret pass code at Koobecaf’s front gate. If they are deemed a legitimate member they gain access to all that exists. The Nacirema confine themselves facing directly toward Koobecaf’s face and the ritual and the ceremonial stalking quest begins. They navigate around Koobecaf from a motherboard of buttons each having a distinct code symbol. The environment of Koobecaf is quite public. The Nacirema do, however, set boundaries on who exactly has the privilege to view their eliforp. Eliforps are the folders for each Nacirema. Interests, relationship status, birthday, and of course a erutcip displaying what the eliforp’s owner looks like at their best or sometimes worst. Furthermore, the Nacirema add smubla containing multiple sotohp. They often scan over faces and id the Nacirema personally by labeling the face with a Nacirema’s name. Koobecaf has several snoitacilppa within it. The Nacirema can add as many of these as they want. The Nacirema are curious and inquisitive people, always wanting the newest thing. Koobecaf has shortcut buttons for faster navigation. The Nacirema are a very fast-paced “GO!GO!GO!” society where, to them time is money. Koobecaf users are classified by the network they belong to. These networks are usually locations where they live, or educational institutions in which they attend. Extending from the default networks the Nacirema create spuorg. Some spuorg are open to everyone whereas other spuorg administrators keep it to invite only. These spuorg members all have commonalities between them. It seems odd and somewhat contradicting that the Nacirema want to be part of so many groups yet still want to maintain their own individuality. On Koobecaf the members obtain friends. The Nacirema crave a high count of friends. Often, two Nacirema will be friends on Koobecaf , but have never actually encountered each other’s presence physically. The Nacirema socially stalk other Nacirema’s eliforps. Koobecaf allows the Nacirema to know what each other are doing, who they’re doing it with, and actually view sotohp of the events. The Nacirema love their freedom and Koobecaf gives them the ability to post what they want. Koobecaf lets them socially express themselves. The Nacirema have high self interests and care about how others perceive them. The Nacirema make judgments about each other just off of the seliforp. Koobecaf allows the Nacirema to network and expand their social circles to as big or as little as they so choose. Koobecaf is a fascinating invention of the Nacirema, I just wonder how the social beings survived before it existed. My findings about the Nacirema and their Koobecaf conclude that there is a definite social dependence on it. I would go as far as to say that if Koobecaf is ever destroyed, the Nacirema and their culture will be devastated until an alternate form of communication is discovered.
