Koobecaf By: Clint Jones Why has facebook become such a big part of our culture? Well I have done my research on this so called facebook and I have found some interesting facts that facebook has accomplished over its last few years. Facebook was originally started for students, class mates, and teachers to communicate between each other outside of class hours. As you can see facebook has changed its face a couple of times since it has first started. At first it was just for certain universities, then all of them, and after that it was for high school too. By the time it reached high school it wasn’t for students to reach there teachers anymore. It was to reach their fellow class mates, and talk about social events and talking to each other. Facebook can also be used as another toolkit for the Nacirema’s culture. The Nacirema’s use this kind of toolkit (facebook) multiple times daily. They use facebook for many different reasons, one of them being to put up a status? It is the Nacirema’s way of communicating without talking to others letting them know how that person feels and what kind of mood they are in. They change this quit often. Off the status part there is a relationship status, quoting if they are single, looking, Another use of this facebook is to make albums of pictures with the Nacirema’s in there everyday life. Tagging friends in pictures to let others now that they where there and that they are friends with those people. Also commenting on others pictures and letting them now good thoughts on the photo. Creating groups that only certain Nacirema’s can join, because of a common interest. The Nacirema’s do this strange thing called writing on a wall. It is a lot similar as a text message or in the older days a note. But in today’s world writing on a wall, you can reach the other person much faster because the Nacirema’s are on the computer a lot more then on there phones or checking the mail. The Nacirema’s also have added applications. Which is where it makes your profile more fun? They allow you to do certain things to show your creativity and to make quizzes to see how much people now about other Nacirema’s. They are fun and the more you have the better it seems like. Facebook makes it easy for the Nacirema’s to create themselves an identity that other people can look at and learn more about this person. Networking goes along with this because networking is where the Nacirema’s separate themselves by where they live or where they go to school. So if you met someone from a different school you can find this person by searching by there network. Facebook has been striving for four years strong now, and it doesn’t look like it has any intensions on slowing down. It has taken communication to another level and has changed the Nacirema’s culture for it to be better and faster. It has made everyone as an equal, and no one is alone. Facebook will keep this social community going and make more changes for even more people will have even more access to its users.
