Why Facebook?

When you first look into facebook, first all you really see is a site that a bunch of kids joined so that they can talk and display obscene photos. But once you start to look deeper into what facebook is really about you start to find the real reason underlining most peoples popular beliefs of why facebook is so popular. That is exactly what I plan to examine.

First facebook exploded into onto the internet market with astounding numbers in 2004, and people were not really sure what all the hype was about. When I started to look at it really all I thought that it was, was just another MSN or IM. But when I finally started to get into the site and look around I realized it was so much more.

If there is one thing that our country is known for, it would have to be the fact that we are always on the road doing something with no time to do anything else, and this is where facebook made their first right choice when creating facebook. Facebook was intended for the ability to just log on and do what you have to do in a matter of just seconds weather it be send a quick instant message or check you wall for posted its all set up to be fast.

The second thing that makes facebook stand out of all the rest is the applications that it allows you to have. These applications range from joining groups to having a top friends list, even “Who is hot, and who is not” application. But with all of the different application that there are, I believe that the groups application is the most significant to our culture. The reason being this, in the United States one of the number one things that each and every person desires is to fit in, and with this application it gives everyone that has facebook a chance to find a group of people that believes the same thing that they do and allows them to get support and even potentially to reach their goal of fitting in somewhere.

As you dig even deeper into the realm of facebook I believe you find the true reason that facebook has exploded into the American Culture. That would be the lose of community that has occurred to everyone that has adapted to the fast pace of America. With theses changes that has happened over the last 20 years or so one thing has stayed constant, the desire of a community. Facebook has given back to the public the community that they desire to have so much.

There are many other reasons that people join facebook but if you really look deep down in an anthropological way these three reasons that I have stated stand at the top of the reasoning of the acceptance of facebook in the American culture and why it has not failed.
