Analyzing Face Book by Vishrut Patel

The creator of FaceBook, Mark Zukerberg was sophomore in Harvard when he had this marvelous idea to connect people through Internet. But the initial idea was a bit different. Actually, he hacked the website of Harvard and stole all the photographs of students and faculties and posted those on a newly created website called Face book. Where the students of Harvard, after being members of that site, could comment on each other’s photographs. This fact is important to mention here because, this reflects humans nature to break lows (here the law to respect each other mainly obeyed in American culture). And not surprisingly the population on face book kept increasing exponentially. Today, after four years from its launch, face book has over 100million active members and it is much more than just comments over each other’s photos. With simple math, it would be interesting to note that every year, more than 250 thousand people take birth on this world of face book and immediately after birth, they start behaving like a normal man. Recall your first step on face book. Just with three steps, 1,2 and 3, you created your self on face book! Here starts your new life. From first hour of your new life, you have your hobbies, favorite movies, music, interests, ambitions, and what not?
Now have look at American culture. It’s world’s most developed, educated and most popular culture. In this culture, a grown up child, from the age of 16 or 18 is independent and is believed to be mature to take his own decisions. This gives them freedom. But on the other side of the coin, this becomes the main reason of distances in family. Families do not live together and live their own different lives. Sometimes the friendships become more important than family relationships. And this intern causes the hunger to have relationship that other people of other cultures feel with their families. This is the super structure that becomes the driving tool for face book usage. In American culture people live in relatively isolated houses and life become more private than it should be. In this type of situation, the friend finder tool comes in to picture. Just think about what are the options with you can search someone on face book. By the high school name, by college name, by workplace name, or by his name, and many more options are available. American culture permits the people of same family to live in separate houses and this forces us to use friend finder that give us the friend with whom we can share our feelings. And face book friends are expected to share feelings like family members. This is the effect of infrastructure.
If we see the social structure, American structure has a dual personality for each one of them. Every person wants to be individual, this is ongoing conception of us in American culture. As mentioned above, every person has hunger to have relationships (just as relationship of parents and children in Indian culture). Thus, the so called social custom of individualism can be is officially broken on face book when you start finding friend and add some one as your friend. To impress someone the user goes open and reveals his personality, hobbies, interests, an all. Thus, the invisible drive to brake rules also can be one reason of flashing success of face book.
